(Nos 1 to 7) A set of scenes on the River, Canton Delta: River Scene: (Place unidentified) in gouache (tempera) drawing on silk. Scene depicts a stretch of the river with a small village on bank and sampans and junks in the anchorage in foreground. liative artist.
Date uncertain but in some of the views places shown no longer existed in the beginning of the 20th century.

River scene. Whampoa district and Dane's Island. Very early type foreign sailing ships laid up (with topmasts, etc., down) awaiting cargoes Customs station to left. Sampans in foreground. (This set of 7 drawings may not be contemporary but they are a pleasing set of drawings of the type of work. They may originally have been parts of a long scroll, cut up into shorter lengths for framing). As is well known there are many examples of Chinese paintings on scroll of stretches of scenery).
Whampoa anchorage and Dane's Island: in very early days. The picture shows the anchorage with numerous foreign ships, some in full rig, other with topmasts down being laid up to wait for cargoes. The whole length of the Island is shown with its hill-top village and the pagoda. In the foreground is shown 'Jardine point' and the hill which was then, or later, the cemetery for foreigners who die in China at that time. A very interesting picture of the time in oils by a native artist. Framed: oil:
